Camp Wannakumbac promises to be ablaze with fun activities and a host of Olympic-like sports — all in the beautiful confines beside Riding Mountain National Park.

This year Wannakumbac is planning the kind of golden camping experience that only comes around every four summers.

And by golden, we are talking Olympian is style in stature. You know, world-class. A wide-ranging and enriched experience that is faster, higher, stronger than what you can find at other camps.

"We want our camp to own the podium’’ said Darren Gusdal, Wannakumbac’s manager.

"And what we mean by that is running a camp that sets the bar high for our staff so that we give all we can for our campers. We want kids to feel that they are winners. We want parents to know that their children are on top of the world when they spend a week at Wannakumbac."

In other words, you don’t need to go to London to swim, to canoe, to kayak, to take your best shot at archery or to be part of an early-morning running club.

You can have it all at our 164 acres nestled up against Riding Mountain National Park.

Of course, the Olympics aren’t just about sports and competing. The Summer Games are also about making new friends, learning about yourself and others, and memories that last a lifetime. And that’s what will be happening at Wannakumbac, just as it has every summer since 1948 when the camp first opened — and coincidentally, the last time the Olympic Games were in the British capital.

"Canada will be sending our best to London and our team of counsellors and program staff will be doing their best this summer for the boys and girls who come to Wannakumbac,’’ said summer director Wendy McLellan.

"We want parents to know that our team will be serving up gold-medal worthy campouts, drama and special days."

Our facility is soon to reach its golden years and we have been fortunate to receive funds this year from the Manitoba Community Services Council.

The funds awarded to Wannakumbac have supported our commitment towards building a winning facility.

Camp Wannakumbac offers a series of week-long camps for boys and girls aged 8-15 over the course of the summer. Accredited by the Manitoba Camping Association, Wannkumbac is owned and operated by the Wasagaming Foundation, a non-profit organization whose trustees are: Manitoba’s Credit Unions, Federated Co-operatives, Keystone Agriculutural Producers, Co-op Hail Insurance, The Co-operators, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, Manitoba Elks Foundation and Parrish & Heimbecker.

"Go for gold this summer by going to Wannakumbac,’’ said Gusdal.
