WASAGAMING — The Park West School Division Outdoor Education Pilot Project Team has won the Parks Canada 2011 Ambassador for Education Award for Manitoba.
This award represents the significant contribution and the vital role teachers play in connecting students to Canada’s national parks and sites.
"It is educators like the members of the Outdoor Education Pilot Project Team who help Parks Canada to connect personally with Canadian youth, and instil an appreciation for the people, places and events that reflect our country," said Riding Mountain superintendent Robert Sheldon.
"This dedicated group of people took on an exciting journey and I applaud them. Their leadership is exemplary."
The team was nominated for their contribution to the design, delivery and evaluation of a successful, in-park, multi-disciplinary Outdoor Education Program at Riding Mountain that creates meaningful connections to Parks Canada for hundreds of students, teachers and parents.
It is through the commitment of active and inspiring educators that Parks Canada is able to create such positive and memorable learning experiences for the students — the future ambassadors of Parks Canada.
Parks Canada works to ensure Canada’s historic and natural heritage is presented and protected for the enjoyment, education and appreciation of all Canadians, today and in the future.
Through a network of 43 national parks, 167 national historic sites, and three national marine conservation areas, Parks Canada sets the stage and invites Canadians and people around the world to engage in personal moments of inspiring discovery of our treasured natural and historic places.
