The Soldiers of Song

Branch #8 of the Royal Canadian Legion is proud to present to western Manitoba “The Soldiers of Song” for one evening only in the historic Aud Theatre in Virden on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

The $20 tickets are available at the Virden Legion Club Room from the Duty Steward and on the evening of the show. Prior to the show there will be a dining experience at the Virden Legion for those who wish to enjoy at tasty supper for just $15 cooked by the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch #8. Anyone wishing to have supper should leave their name at the Legion with the Duty Steward and the number of persons in the party prior to Sept. 10.

“The Soldiers of Song” was written by the award winning Jason Wilson. It is an short, entertaining show that celebrates Canada’s famous First World War Concert Party: The Dumbells.

Wilson, joined by his own ‘era-appropriate’ band, presents a review and re-imagination of the musical fare performed by the famous comedy troupe. This half-lecture and half musical performance transports the listener back to a time when Canada’s fighting men whistled “The Dumbell Rag” along the Western Front.

The show will not be in any other Westman centre, including Brandon, other than Virden in our historic Aud Theatre. The Aud holds 500 people and every seat is a good one.

This show is a series of fundraisers for Branch #8, Royal Canadian Legion in Virden and we look forward to your support in this endeavour.

» SubmittedThere has been a renewed interest in this iconic group of entertainers and their distinctly Canadian approach: irreverent, socially aware, sacrilegious, sentimental, and intensely Canadian.
