The Canadian Press - ONLINE EDITION

First-ever 'Big Brother Canada' leans heavily on houseguests in their 20s

TORONTO - The inaugural edition of "Big Brother Canada" will lean heavily on houseguests in their 20s, including a 29-year-old tanning salon owner, a 27-year-old bartender and a 24-year-old dairy farmer.

Shaw Media says 15 houseguests have been invited to move into a camera-rigged house for the first Canuck version of the global reality show smash.

Twelve of the 15 competitors are in their 20s, with the youngest a 20-year-old aspiring actress from Calgary and the oldest a 38-year-old insurance sales trainer from Halifax.

Shaw says roughly 10,000 Canadians auditioned for a chance to compete for the grand prize of $100,000, a $25,000 gift card to The Brick and a Chevrolet Trax.

"Big Brother Canada" premieres Feb. 27 on Slice and will air three nights a week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

"Big Brother Canada After Dark" will also debut Feb. 27 on Slice. It airs seven days a week from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. ET/ 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. PT.

Beginning that same day, fans can also visit the website www.bigbrothercanada.ca to eavesdrop on the houseguests through a 24-hour live feed.

Hosted by Arisa Cox, "Big Brother Canada" will pit houseguests against one another in a series of challenges. They'll vote each other out each week until one claims victory.
