Five finalists named for CBC's Canada Writes short-story contest

TORONTO - Five finalists have been named in the CBC's search for the best English-language short story of the year.

More than 2,400 stories were submitted for the Canada Writes contest, which has a grand prize of $6,000 (and $1,000 each for the other four finalists).

The winning author also receives a two-week writing residency at The Banff Centre, has their story published in Air Canada's enRoute magazine, and is invited to the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival in April.

Authors Esi Edugyan, Lawrence Hill and Vincent Lam will choose the winner, who will be revealed March 26.

The finalists are:

— Becky Blake of Toronto for "The Three Times Rule"

— Mathew Howard of Toronto for "Old Hands"

— Roderick Moody-Corbett of Calgary for "Parse"

— Eliza Robertson of Victoria for "L'�tranger"

— Jay Tameling of Edmonton for "Sweet Dynamite"
