NEW YORK, N.Y. - Writing duo Gamble and Huff will receive the Johnny Mercer award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony.

The organization announced Tuesday that Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff will be honoured with the top prize June 12 in New York City. Elton John and Bernie Taupin earned the honour last year.

Philadelphia-based Gamble and Huff have written and produced many hits, including Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and the O'Jays' "Love Train." They also wrote the "Soul Train" theme song, "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)."

The duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1995.

Ray Davies, Donovan and songwriters Jim Weatherly, Graham Gouldman and Mark James make up the 2014 Songwriters Hall of Fame class.
