Michael Frayn's silly 'Noises Off' to return to Broadway next winter via Roundabout

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Next winter will be more farcical on Broadway — "Noises Off" is coming back.

The Roundabout Theatre Company said Thursday it will revive Michael Frayn's Tony-nominated play about what's it like behind-the-scenes at a door-slamming play where everything that can go wrong does.

Previews will begin in January 2015 at the American Airlines Theatre. No cast was revealed but it will be directed by Jeremy Herrin.

In the show, the audience follows the misfortunes of a c-list British troupe as it rehearses, performs and tours a British sex farce called "Nothing On." It has become a favourite in stock, regional, university and amateur theatres.

It made its Broadway debut in 1983 starring Victor Garber and ran for more than 550 shows. It was revived in 2001 with Richard Easton, Peter Gallagher, Patti LuPone, Faith Prince and T. R. Knight.

Roundabout also updated its schedule to add the New York premiere of Tom Stoppard's romantic drama "Indian Ink" to be directed by Carey Perloff. That begins its run in September 2014 at the Roundabout's of-Broadway home in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre. It will come just as Roundabout mounts a revival of Stoppard's "The Real Thing" on Broadway starring Ewan McGregor and directed by Sam Gold.
