The Walrus editor plans to leave post with magazine by end of the year

TORONTO - John Macfarlane, editor and co-publisher of The Walrus, plans to leave his post at the end of the year.

In a statement, he says he's enjoyed being at the magazine but he feels it's time "for a new kind of editor."

He adds it's something he's been thinking about "for a while" and he feels the timing is right for both him and the organization.

Macfarlane joined the magazine, which is published by the charitable, non-profit Walrus Foundation, in July 2008.

Prior to that, he was editor of Toronto Life from 1992 to 2007.

He's also had key positions at CTV, the Financial Times of Canada, Saturday Night magazine, Weekend Magazine and Maclean's, among other organizations.
