Boy, 8, from rural Saskatchewan in hospital after dog attack

INDIAN HEAD, Sask. - An eight-year-old boy from rural Saskatchewan remains in hospital after being injured by a dog on the weekend.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Dawson says the boy was with other children on a property near Indian Head just east of Regina on Saturday.

Dawson says the child got into a fenced kennel area where the mixed breed dog was being kept.

The boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Regina.

Dawson won't comment on the extent of the boy's injuries.

He says the dog has not been destroyed so that public health officials can do tests for possible diseases, including rabies.

"Whether or not the dog had any diseases of any sort ... may relate to the care of the child," Dawson said Monday.

RCMP in Indian Head are investigating.
