Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards slated to add two new categories in 2015

TORONTO - The Canadian Art & Fashion Awards is slated to expand when the annual event returns in 2015.

Organizers have announced the addition of two new categories to the gala, which recognizes homegrown talent within the fashion industry.

In addition to the emerging talent award for accessory design, there will also a fashion blogger of the year award presented to a blog or website showcasing excellence in online fashion critique, reporting and photography.

Twin designers Dean and Dan Caten were the big winners of the inaugural CAFAs, which were held earlier this year.

The Toronto-born brothers behind the renowned Milan-based label DSquared2 were recognized with an award for outstanding achievement at the inaugural gala. The Catens also received the CAFA for international Canadian designer of the year, which honoured a recipient that has achieved success abroad and brought attention to Canadian talent on the world stage.

Toronto-born, Richmond, B.C.-raised Coco Rocha was recognized as model of the year.

Awards were handed out in a number of other categories including designer of the year honours for menswear, womenswear and accessories.

The CAFAs also paid a special tribute to Fashion Television Channel host Jeanne Beker, honouring the longtime fashion and media maven with its vanguard award.

The second annual CAFA gala is slated to take place on Jan 31, 2015.
