Investigations launched after narcotics go missing from Cape Breton hospital

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. - Health officials in Cape Breton say they are co-operating with police as they investigate the alleged theft of narcotics from a North Sydney hospital.

The Cape Breton District Health Authority says the pain killer hydromorphone was discovered missing from the Northside General Hospital during a routine check.

The authority says it handed the matter to police earlier this month, and is also conducting its own investigation.

As well, the authority says it is reviewing protocols for the handling of narcotics.

It says additional details won't be released as the matter remains under investigation.
