MONTREAL - French style visionary and author Nathalie Rykiel is set to make her mark at an upcoming Canadian fashion event.

The daughter of legendary designer Sonia Rykiel has been named honorary president of the Fashion & Design Festival in Montreal scheduled to take place this summer.

Nathalie Rykiel is slated to deliver a lecture on the theme of elegance at the event followed by a signing of her latest release, "L'lgance," a book on fashion.

Rykiel started off as a model in 1976, later transitioning to staging shows for the family-run fashion house. She has helped spearhead several collections and concepts for the label including Rykiel Enfant, Sonia Rykiel Modern Vintage and Rykiel Woman. The brand also partnered on an affordable style collaboration with Swedish fast-fashion label H&M.

Nearly 50 shows are to be presented during the four-day festival in Montreal, which includes fashion shows, live art installations, musical performances and real-time design. Last year's event featured famed French designer and artist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac as honorary chair.

Event organizer Sensation Mode announced last November that it was cancelling the winter edition of Montreal Fashion Week to focus its efforts on merging the semi-annual showcase with the city's summer style fest.

The 14th edition of the Fashion & Design Festival is scheduled to take place Aug. 20-23 at Place des Festivals.
