New Brunswick premier confident cuts won't add to X-ray wait times

FREDERICTON - The premier of New Brunswick says he's confident that the elimination of 12 radiology technician positions in the province won't increase wait times at hospital X-ray departments.

David Alward says he has full confidence in the management team running the hospitals.

The Horizon Health Network announced this week it had laid off eight people and four vacant positions would not be filled.

Spokeswoman Carolyn McCormack says the changes will save $500,000 per year.

McCormack says the cuts in Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton come from about 500 diagnostic imaging positions in the province.

Donald Arseneault, the Liberal health critic, says the government isn't consulting with front line workers and he expects wait times will increase.
