Residents of southwest New Brunswick advised to watch for ice jams, flooding

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - An agency that monitors flooding in New Brunswick has advised people who live along rivers and streams in the province's southwestern counties and along the Bay of Fundy to monitor water levels.

The provincial River Watch agency says forecasts for up to 40 millimetres of rain combined with temperatures above zero on Wednesday may lead to rapid melting of ice on rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

The agency says in the advisory that there is a possibility of ice jam flooding in some areas.

It also says the rainfall can cause local flooding where drainage systems are blocked by ice and snow.

The advisory says that recreational vehicles shouldn't use ice crossings over the next few days.
