Shoreline property home to bald eagles and deer to be preserved in Cape Breton

MCKINNONS HARBOUR, N.S. - A Nova Scotia conservancy organization says a nature reserve will be created on the shores of Cape Breton's Bras d'Or lakes.

The Bras d'Or Preservation Trust says the reserve will be located in McKinnon's Harbour near Iona, and will encompass nearly two kilometres of shoreline.

It will also include 16 hectares of forest land that is home to bald eagles and deer, as well as rare plants and mature trees.

The trust says the property was donated by the landowners so that it would be permanently protected.

It says funding is also coming from the Nova Scotia Crown Share Land Legacy Trust Fund and Montreal-based EJLB Foundation.

The property will be owned and managed by the nature trust, which is the oldest land trust in Nova Scotia.
