Water quality reviewed as developer eyes popular Alberta lake

EDMONTON - The water quality of a popular central Alberta lake is being reviewed as part of a challenge of a resort and golf course development.

The Environmental Appeals Board was meeting in Edmonton on Monday to take another look at a proposal that would add 1,100 RV units at Gull Lake.

The province has already approved Delta Land Co.'s plan to construct an inland marina and beach and to divert water for recreational and irrigation purposes.

The president of the Gull Lake Water Quality Management Society says it's the largest development ever proposed for the area.

Craig McLeod says the project would be about the same size as the last three developments combined.

He says the lake has had relatively few problems with blue-green algae, but more research is necessary to ensure that quality can be maintained in light of more development.
