10 soldiers hurt as military trucks collide at CFB Shilo

Ten soldiers were injured — nine of them sent to hospital — following a crash between two military trucks during a training exercise at CFB Shilo.

Base spokesperson Lori Truscott confirmed that the crash happened on a road within the on-base training area around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Base emergency personnel responded, and members of Brandon Fire and Emergency Services supplied additional ambulance support.

At least one of the trucks was carrying soldiers at the time they collided. One soldier was treated on scene and another nine were taken to Brandon hospital with undetermined injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The injured soldiers are members of Shilo-based 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.

No cause for the crash has been determined yet as the investigation continues.

Truscott said units were involved in a multi-unit training exercise at the base this week.
