11 buffer zones added during delay in fogging south of Victoria

Brandon residents can expect less itchy mosquito bites after the city crews finish fogging the south end of the city.

As of press time, crews were still planning to fog south of Victoria Avenue starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Malathion fogging is dependent on weather and wind. The city postponed fogging

plans for Thursday night because rain was forecast.

Similar to last year, residents could register for a buffer zone around their home.

The number of buffer zones has dropped significantly from 174 last year to only 108 this year.

When buffer registration closed at 7 p.m. Friday for the south side of the city, an additional 11 registered on the additional day caused by the delay.

The decision to fog was made after the mosquito trap average exceeded 1,000, including one trap with over 3,300 mosquitoes.

City workers successfully fogged north of Victoria Avenue overnight Wednesday.
