Canada Day: What's open, what's closed

The Brandon Sun would like to wish readers a happy and safe Canada Day. Here’s a list of operating hours for some businesses and important services this holiday weekend:

Your newspaper

• The Brandon Sun will publish on Monday.

City of Brandon

• The Civic Administration Building and Civic Services Complex will be closed on Monday.

Transit

• On Monday, buses won’t run and the information centre and transit office will be closed. Handi-Transit will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Travel

• Call the Grey Goose-Greyhound bus depot at 727-0643 for times.

Liquor

• Some Manitoba Liquor Marts will operate for extended hours on Friday and Saturday.

• The Victoria Avenue shop will be open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

• The Shoppers Mall outlet will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and between noon and 5 p.m. on Sunday.

• The Corral Centre store will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

• All Westman Liquor Marts will be open on Monday from noon to 6 p.m.

• All licensed premises, including beer vendors, may be open for liquor service on Sunday (Canada Day). Privately owned liquor vendors in rural areas are subject to arrangements within their own municipalities.

Health

• The Brandon Clinic, Wheat City Clinic, Western Medical clinic, Rosser Medical Group and Trinity Medical Clinic will all be closed on Sunday and Monday.

Brandon Clinic West will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Newmount Medical Clinic will closed on Sunday and open on Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• The Medical Centre Pharmacy will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

• The Wheat City Pharmacy will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday and Monday.

• Miller’s Pharmacy is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Sunday and open Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• The Brandon Clinic Pharmacy will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

Garbage

• There will be no garbage collection on Monday. Tuesday will be Day 2 of the collection cycle.

• The Eastview Landfill Site will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

• The Eco Centre for used oil, oil filters and oil container disposal is closed on Sundays and all statutory holidays.

Canada Post

• Canada Post offices are closed on Monday and there will be no mail delivery or collection on those days. Post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

Shopping

• The Shoppers Mall is open regular hours on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The mall will be closed on Monday to mark the holiday and regular hours weill resume on Tuesday.

Mall hours don’t necessarily affect the hours for Smitty’s Family Restaurant and Lounge. Call 571-3160 for hours.

• The Town Centre will be open Saturday at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sunday and Monday.

Brandon Public Library

@03 Body Copy:• The library will be open this Saturday from 10 a.m. to

6 p.m. and will be closed as usual on Sunday. It will also be closed on Monday for the holiday with regular hours resuming on Tuesday.

Note that the library will be closed on Saturdays during July and August.

RETAIL

• Under federal law, business retailers are required to consider July 2 a statutory holiday because Canada Day falls on a Sunday this year.

• Sunday, July 1 is subject to normal Sunday shopping restrictions and municipal bylaws.

• Most retail businesses must be closed on Monday, July 2. Retail businesses that regularly run with four or less people (including the owner) may be open on Monday.

• Other exceptions that may be open on July 2 include: restaurants; pharmacies; laundromats; boat and motor vehicle rental, repair and service shops; places with educational, recreational or amusement purposes; tourism and recreation facilities including summer and winter resorts; other retail businesses where the only goods sold or offered for sale are nursery stock, flowers, garden supplies and accessories, fresh fruit and vegetables and gasoline, motor oil and related goods or services for use in the operation of a motor vehicle.
