Posting season at CFB Shilo can be a hectic time as residents see old neighbours move away and new neighbours take their place.

During the shuffle, Jodi Laba, from Canadian Forces Housing Agency, performs inspections on units to ensure there is no damage.

She also debunked the myth that residents are free of damage charges after 10 years.

"Flooring, for example, is on a 10-year life-cycle. If you live in a house for eight years, and the flooring is damaged, you would pay 20 per cent of the cost, as we would expect to only get another two years out of the flooring anyway."

Murray Fingas, Ross Wilkinson, Les Houston and Doug Robertson captured the 2013 Minto Bonspiel.

Fingas defeated Jay Fraser, Brooklyn Scott, Brittany Hole and Bryce Scott in the final.

The event ran in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Minto Recreation Centre, which was builtin in 1963.

Boissevain Recorder

After a successful 2012 year, economic development officer Dale Banman has set his sights on some of the empty buildings located along Main Street in Boissevain.

Another gap in services is the lack of community dentist. Banman said he has been in conversation with a local dentist about starting a satellite office in town.

In total, 34 regional competitors and eight CanSkate participants competed from across Parkland at the Swan River Centennial Arena.

Killarney Guide

By mid-February Killarney residents can expect well water to flow from their taps instead of the traditional lake water.

The changeover is part of a $7.5 million project that will upgrade the water treatment plant.

Two well bores will be the source of the new water supply. The wells are located 11 kilometres northeast of town.

Hamiota’s Marian Juce was presented the individual award at the Park West School Division’s annual Student Awards Banquet.

Grace Kang, Jessica Arnfinson, Shaylyn Lamb, Robyn Gerrard and Lisa Rystephanuk from Strathclair School were named the group winner.

Virden Empire-Advance

Virden’s high school curling teams showed off their collective sweeping muscle at the Zone 9 curling championships.

Marc Vachon, Nathan Kernel, Matt Campbell and Jake Kitto captured the boys’ title, while Samantha Rimke, Krista Grieve, Sonya Laroque and Meghan Kyle won top spot on the girls’ side.

Both teams will head to provincials in Gladstone/Plumas Feb. 7 to 9.

Crossroads This Week

Hamiota’s Kerry Wilson, 37, has nothing but positive things to say after undergoing Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency Liberation surgery late last year in California.

"Even before the surgeon was finished I noticed physical changes," she said. "The pressure in my head was released as the valve in my left jugular was opened. the life long headache at the back of my head was gone. A feeling of warth followed and within hours more changed emerged. The tightness in my chest was lifted, my heart beat felt stronger, my colour improved, and my extremities did not feel cold anymore."

Souris Plaindealer

Ground is getting set to be broken on the new Souris Swinging Bridge.

WBS, a contractor from Winkler will build the new bridge that was engineered by Stantec.

The new bridge will span 184 metres, reclaiming its former title as the longest swinging bridge in Canada, and will reach new heights in hopes that it will be able to beat the threat of a future flood.
