National Aboriginal Day will be celebrated at the New Era school grounds on Thursday, June 21, all afternoon and into the evening.
According to the schedule of events, the kickoff will take place at noon that day, followed by medicine singers, a magician and then a powwow at 2 p.m.
Later, square dancers and drummers will take centre stage, with the Grand Entry set for 5 p.m.
Throughout the afternoon, hayrides and face painting will be available, along with storytelling, a bannock-making demonstration, flint knapping and children’s entertainment.
Another powwow demonstration is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by a performance of the Mosquitoz.
The day will wind up at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, Riding Mountain National Park will celebrate National Aboriginal Day, with a number of events taking place from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. near the Visitor Centre and bandstand area in Wasagaming.
On tap are bannock making, cultural teachings and traditional craft making, as well as a demonstration powwow.
This event is hosted by the Riding Mountain National Aboriginal Day Celebration Committee, which consists of Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation, Wapiti Association, Friends of Riding Mountain National Park and Parks Canada.
