Access to the city’s three senior high schools was restricted on Wednesday due to a “safety and security” issue.
However, as of Wednesday evening, there was still no official word as to why.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Brandon School Division confirmed that Crocus Plains, Vincent Massey and Neelin high schools were all restricted to “primary access” only.
That means students were to enter and exit each building through one main door, but the BSD stressed the schools weren’t under lockdown and classes continued as normal.
The access restriction was to remain in place for the rest of the day.
CTV reported that parents who visited one school indicated that all seemed normal.
The school division said the incident had something to do with a BPS investigation in the community, but didn’t supply any specifics about what had led to the concern.
A spokeswoman said the school division was working with Brandon police, but calls by the Brandon Sun to police failed to get a response.
CKLQ reported that a source had told the station that a student had threatened to take weapons to “a high school.”
