Police will be out in force for the next week as the country marks Road Safety Week, and things are kicking off today with an afternoon checkstop.
Brandon police officers — including the chief — will be pulling people over as they check for risky behaviours such as not wearing a seatbelt, distracted driving or impaired driving.
The first checkstop is planned for today at 1 p.m., in the northbound lanes of First Street, just north of the bridge.
Canada Road Safety Week will run until May 19. Manitoba RCMP say they, too, will be stepping up enforcement in rural areas during the week.
