Alleged thief charged, snowmobile still missing

Police in Dauphin say they’ve tracked down and charged the man they believe stole a snowmobile over the weekend, but they still haven’t been able to find the missing sled.

The snowmobile was reported stolen early Saturday morning from the backyard of a home on Merrell Avenue. The black Yamaha VMax 500 XT had probably been taken within an hour of the report, police say.

Officers with the Dauphin municipal RCMP say they were quickly able to identify a suspect and arrested a 25-year-old Dauphin man later in the day.

However, the snowmobile has still not been found. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5020.

Meanwhile, Leroy Christopher Thompson has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of recognizance. He was held for the weekend to appear in Dauphin court on Tuesday.
