The late Errol Black will be honoured with the 2013 Global Citizenship Award, presented this weekend by the Marquis Project.
Marquis Project says that the 2013 Marquis Global Citizenship Award will be presented posthumously to Black at the upcoming Marquis Open House on Saturday.
Marquis said Black will be honoured for his lifetime contribution to the cause of social justice and democracy.
His work was part of the wider global movement of international trade unionism, social democratic politics, and progressive community organization.
The award, to be presented by Brandon East NDP MLA Drew Caldwell at the Marquis Open House on Saturday, will be accepted by Errol’s wife, Margaret Black.
The open house celebrates the end of International Development Week, which is held from Feb. 3-9 this year.
The week features local events all across Canada that pay tribute to the thousands of Canadians who devote themselves to improving lives in the developing world.
In addition to the presentation of the Global Citizenship Award, the Marquis Open House will provide opportunity for guests to play The Fair Game, an educational Marquis-produced role-playing game which explores the costs and benefits of world trading systems.
The open house will also include a rainbow auction, penny drive, refreshments, and entertainment by Brandon music educator Tom Dowden.
The open house is scheduled for Saturday from 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Elephant Room at the Knowles-Douglas Centre of Brandon University.
The Global Citizenship Award presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m.
