Boil water advisory still in effect for RM of Elton

Residents in the Rural Municipality of Elton were advised to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it after repairs to a water pipe were required in Forrest, on Wednesday.

The repairs have already been completed, but because contaminants could have entered the drinking water while repairs were made, the boil water advisory was issued by Manitoba Water Stewardship, said RM of Elton chief administrative officer Kathleen Steele. It will remain in place until lab tests of the drinking water show that it is safe to consume.

“We are hoping the lab tests will be in (this) morning,” Steele said. “It usually takes one or two days. You have to take the sample, get it into the lab so they can do their tests. We haven’t had this happen very often.”

While it is not required to boil water used for washing clothes and household use not related to food preparation, caution is required when bathing younger children. The advisory states younger children should be sponge bathed until the advisory is lifted.

If boiling water is not feasible, bottled water should be obtained.
