Police blame alcohol and lack of seatbelt use for contributing to a head-on crash near Dauphin late last week that killed one man and sent another to hospital.
Emergency workers were called to Road 151 about eight kilometres north of Dauphin around 12:20 a.m. on Friday.
Two pickup trucks had smashed into each other and spun off into ditches.
Police say the westbound pickup ended up in the south ditch. That truck’s driver, a 55-year-old Dauphin man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the other truck, which was headed east and ended up in the north ditch, was a 25-year-old rural Dauphin man who was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The name of the man who was killed is not being released by police. They continue to investigate.
