Property tax rates in Brandon may be slated to rise slightly in 2013, but budget-minded homeowners have a chance to save a little bit by paying early.
The City of Brandon offers up to a two per cent discount for pre-paying tax bills in January, but there’s less than two weeks left at that rate.
In February, the discount drops to 1.5 per cent, with even smaller discounts in March (one per cent discount), April (three-quarters of a per cent) and May (half a per cent).
Taxes may be paid in advance up to a maximum value of last year’s taxes, providing your tax bill was previously paid in full.
Taxpayers can also pay monthly by automatic bank withdrawal — which avoids late payment penalties, but also doesn’t qualify for prepayment discounts.
For more information, go to city hall, call 204-729-2228, or visit the city’s website at brandon.ca/departments/treasury/taxes-a-assessment.
