Charges laid after vehicle crashes into snowbank

City police caught two men for driving the same vehicle while drunk after it was involved in two crashes on the same day.

According to police, on Saturday morning, police saw the vehicle smash into a snowbank on First Street and Lorne Avenue.

The passenger in the car, another Brandon man, was driving the same vehicle which was involved in another accident earlier in the day downtown — a hit and run.

Police allege the men switched drivers after the first crash before the second driver crashed into the snowbank.

Onlookers called the police to report the erratic driving, so police were quick to get to the scene of the second accident where they found the two men still in the car.

The two men were charged with impaired driving after they were both found to have more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their systems. One of the men was also suspended from driving in Manitoba.

The two are scheduled to appear in court this week.

It appears Brandon’s drunk drivers were having a hard time missing snowbanks and cars this weekend.

In a separate incident, a Brandon man allegedly stole a vehicle from a 13th Street home sometime overnight on Saturday, smashed into a parked car and then into a snowbank on 26th Street Saturday morning.

Not only was the 22-year-old man arrested for drunk driving, he was also charged with breach of an undertaking before an officer in charge and possession of property obtained by crime.
