City selling off surplus vehicles

The City of Brandon is once again going into the used-vehicle business.

More than two dozen of the city’s quality used vehicles are up for sale to the general public through its annual surplus vehicle sale.

A total of 28 vehicles — many of which have been recently safetied and have lower than average mileage when compared to similarly aged vehicles — are up for grabs and will be awarded to a successful bidder through a sealed bid process.

Examples of vehicles available in this year’s sale include:

• 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab, four wheel drive with 88,000 kilometres

• 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 club cab, four wheel drive with 98,000 km

• 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid with 126,000 km

• 1999 New Holland TV140 bi-directional tractor with 4,900 hours

Passenger vehicles, buses and other specialized vehicles are also up for sale.

“Because the city has made the process of bidding on a surplus vehicle so quick and easy, this annual event has become more and more popular each year it is held,” said Timothy Sanderson, the city’s director of transportation services.

“With the interest we’ve seen in the sale, it’s evident that the public really likes having a low-pressure, no-haggle option when purchasing well-maintained vehicles and equipment.”

For more information and a full list of the vehicles up for sale, interested bidders can access the tender and bidding package by clicking on brandon.ca/purchasing-a-tenders.

From there, they can view pictures of the vehicles and download the full package, bidding instructions and the bid form.

Vehicles involved in the auction will be available for viewing on Nov. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Civic Services Transit Garage located at 900 Richmond Ave. East.

Any and all bids must be received by 5 p.m. on Nov. 22.

Bids are generally awarded to the highest competent bidder who meets the required specifications. However, the city retains the right to reject any or all bids.

Of important note to the public, a bid is binding and irrevocable for a period of 30 days following the closing date. Once an award of a vehicle is made by the City of Brandon, the bidder is bound to purchase that unit.
