The Brandon Inn on Princess Avenue and Ninth Street will be demolished.
The former Brandon Inn, along with the former Brandon Real Estate Board building, should be demolished by the end of April.
City council approved a recommendation from the engineering department to award Rakowski Cartage & Wrecking Ltd. the demolition contract at a cost of $269,000 (excluding GST).
"They were the low bid," said Ted Snure, the city’s general manager of development services. "They’re an experienced wrecking company, all their tender documentation was in order and we recommended them for the contract."
Rakowski Cartage & Wrecking Ltd. was chosen out of six possible options.
Council approved the transfer of $271,000 from the Land Acquisition Reserve to the development services operating account, to cover the city’s portion of the project’s total costs. Renaissance Brandon is providing $15,000 for the project.
Snure said the city expects to have a pre-demolition meeting with the contractor this week and work could begin as early as next week.
According to Snure, the city requires the work to be complete by April 26.
