A young man will have to do 110 hours of community service work after violating a court-ordered dress code.
Warren Eric Thomas, 20, pleaded guilty in Brandon court on Thursday to breaching his probation by wearing red.
The restriction on red clothing stems from an incident in September, when Thomas was involved in a gang-related fight in the hallway of Crocus Plains high school.
The scuffle began over the flashing of gang hand signs and the throwing of a binder.
Thomas was a member of the Indian Posse “feeder club,” The Young Bucks.
His adversary was part of a group affiliated with the Manitoba Warriors.
In December, Thomas received a conditional discharge for causing a disturbance. As part of the order he was banned from wearing red, a colour associated with the Indian Posse.
On June 8, he was found in breach of that directive after police were called to the 800-block of Louise for a report of brawling youths.
Among those walking away from the scene as police arrived was an Indian Posse member and a youth connected to the Manitoba Warriors.
Thomas was also there wearing a red T-shirt.
Crown attorney Jim Ross said the breach of probation charge against Thomas was the only one police could lay out of the situation.
Defence lawyer Philip Sieklicki said Thomas was wearing the red shirt under another orange and white shirt when police found him.
His client is no longer a member of The Young Bucks, Sieklicki added.
Judge Herbert Lawrence Allen sentenced Thomas with a one-year conditional discharge with 110 hours of community service work.
