Conflicting tales after downtown incident

Brandon police aren’t entirely sure who to believe, but they’ve got at least two stories to go on.

They say a truck driver called 911 sometime Thursday night from near 10th Street and Rosser Avenue in downtown Brandon. He told them that two women had stopped him in his semi-truck and tried to get money from him.

That’s when, he says, he ran off and hid until police showed up.

The women, however, tell a different tale. Police say that after sorting through several stories, they believe — though they can’t prove — that the man tried to solicit the women, and that they instead took his keys and threw them down a storm drain.

The keys were recovered and returned to the man.

The two women, however, were quite drunk, police say, and were taken to the drunk tank to sleep it off.
