Police had to draw their guns in a showdown with a knife-wielding man after they chased down three people accused of trying to steal a case of beer Wednesday night.
Officers were first called to a disturbance at a downtown hotel, but when they arrived they found it was actually an attempted robbery in which three people — one with a knife — had tried to steal a case of beer from a patron of the hotel.
Unsuccessful, the three ran from the hotel, but police were able to quickly track them down.
The three put up a fight in resisting arrest and one of the men allegedly approached officers in a threatening manner while brandishing a knife. He gave it up after police drew their guns and warned him, and he was arrested without further incident.
Two Brandon men have been charged with attempted robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting police. One of the men also faces an additional two charges of assaulting a police officer.
A third male was also arrested and further charges may be pending.
There were no injuries reported.
Police say they continue to investigate.
