City police have arrested and charged a man suspected of stabbing another man to death in December before setting a fire to cover up the crime.
The Brandon Police Service Criminal Investigations Unit identified and arrested a 23-year-old man from Canupawakpa Dakota Nation on Wednesday night. The man was initially arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
The man has since been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of Earl Daniel Beebe, 39.
On Dec. 28, emergency crews were called to the apartment at 636 Victoria Ave. to respond to a small kitchen fire. Once the flames were extinguished, Beebe was found unresponsive and lying on a mattress with multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
He was pronounced dead shortly after he was sent to hospital.
David Andrew Paul was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing Thursday afternoon and remains in custody. His next court appearance is set for Monday.
Police continue to investigate the matter and say further charges are pending.
