Cops investigate suspicious death on Victoria

A Brandon man’s death is being treated as suspicious by police after his body was found inside a Victoria Avenue home.

Firefighters were called to a home on the 600-block of Victoria Avenue just past 1 a.m. on Saturday after smoke was reported. They were able to extinguish a small fire, but after that, a male’s body was found inside the home.

Police have released few details about the death, but say they are treating the death as suspicious as they continue to investigate. However, there was no indication whether they consider foul play to be involved.

Sgt. Mike Melanson told the Sun the victim has been identified as a 39-year-old Brandon man and they are actively seeking the person or persons responsible for his death. Melanson could not say whether the fire was linked to the man’s death.

“We’ll release more information earlier this week once the investigation gets going,” he said. “The investigation is very young right now.

“To protect the interest of the investigation that’s all we can release.”

Police are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information on any unsolved crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 204-727-8477. Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display and pays up to $2,000 cash for information that leads to the solution of a crime.
