Brandon police have issued a warning to local retailers after counterfeit cash was found in Brandon.
The fake currency, which consisted of several American $20 bills, was apparently passed at a service station along the Trans-Canada Highway overnight Tuesday, and was reported to police at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
They say they are investigating, but are taking the opportunity to tell retail workers that it’s a good idea to take some time to check cash that they take in. Problems with counterfeit money often surges during the holiday season as workers are distracted trying to cope with the shopping rush.
Police say most counterfeit bills have poor quality reproduction and are done on low-quality paper.
