Recreation fees at Brandon’s Community Sportsplex will be going up in 2013.
Hourly ice rental rates will cost $192.75, up $9.25 from 2012 rates. Swimming lessons will cost a few extra dollars — $64 for children’s 30-minute classes. Public skating and racquetball court fees will increase by a quarter.
Perry Roque, the city’s community services director, said the annual fee increase is typically between three and five per cent.
“We’re not generating enough revenue right now to cover all the operating costs, so we always do an annual fee increase to try and help offset some of our costs to operate the facility,” Roque said.
City council approved the 2013 schedule of fees earlier this week.
Fees at the Wheat City Golf Course will be staying as is. Regular green fees for 18 holes will remain at $33, or $16.50 for nine holes. An 11-game punch card will cost $330, while a season pass is $775.
“Those fees are staying the same because last year … we felt we really hadn’t operated at full capacity,” Roque said.
The golf course is still recovering from damage sustained in the flood of 2011. Last summer, only nine holes were open for use. Roque said the plan is for Wheat City Golf Course to be in full operation by summer 2013.
“We’re just hoping that everything runs smoothly in terms of weather conditions and all the grass and everything grows properly,” he said.
Tennis court fees will stay at $7 per day, $60 for a student season pass and $120 for an adult season pass. The family season pass will increase to $250 from $240.
Other increases include fees at Brandon Municipal Cemetery. Regular plots are increasing by $42.
Renting the civic administration building for events will go up to $90 from $72 (up to three hours.) Each additional hour will now cost $30.
Special business licences will be going up for crafters, who sell handmade goods away from their home.
Brandon residents will now pay $55, up $5. Regional residents of the rural municipalities of Elton, Daly, Whitehead or Cornwallis pay $82.50, up from $75. All others must pay $110, up from $100.
Business licence fees such as taxi, home-based or mobile food service will cost $210, up $5.
Special event permits will cost $50, up $16.25 from 2012 rates. Permits are free for non-profit organizations.
