City council agreed to dole out funding to two tourist-drawing events last night.
The Brandon Curling Club received an accommodation tax grant of $30,000 under the new event category, to host the 2015 Safeway Select Manitoba Men’s Championships in February at the Keystone Centre.
Historically, the Manitoba Men’s Championships have rotated around the province with Brandon hosting the event about every four years, but it’s been since 2008 since the event last came to the Wheat City.
The City of Brandon will transfer from its accommodation tax reserve to its tourism funds.
The five-day event will attract 32 men’s teams comprised of 4-6 players with several teams from within southwest Manitoba.
The championships will be marketed across Manitoba and television coverage will be provided by a national carrier.
Council also approved a $35,000 grant for the Arabian Horse Show Association to host the Canadian National Arabian and Half Arabian Horse show in August of this year.
