Council to hear designated driver business pitch

Brandon City Council will hear from a local entrepreneur who is seeking approval for a home-based designated driver business.

Jeff Carey will make a presentation at the council meeting on Monday regarding his plan to start the business under the name “Wheat City Designated Driver.”

The basis of the business is that Carey will drive home clients in their own vehicle for a fee, and an employee will follow in Carey’s vehicle to pick him up when the trip is complete.

Council will also hear a presentation from Denise Jubenvill of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation regarding upgrades to Victoria Avenue between First and 18th streets.

Council will also consider an application to subdivide 1637-Eighth St., receive an update on the city’s environmental initiatives and consider a tender for a new top mount enclosed pumper truck.

A bylaw regarding boarding house regulations will be given third and final reading.

City council meets Monday at 7:30 p.m.
