Dauphin’s Countryfest has been awarded the 2012 philanthropist of the year award from the Dauphin & District Community Foundation.
The award was presented to the organization at the Community Foundation’s annual dinner on Oct. 13.
The philanthropist of the year award is given to individual(s) or businesses that have shown the true spirit of philanthropy and giving.
The award may be given for contributions to the foundation in one given year and/or for contributions over an extended period.
Dauphin’s Countryfest has been involved from the establishment of the Dauphin & District Community Foundation with a $5,000 donation as part of the founding members. It also donated $10,000 to set up a fund to maintain the Vermillion River Walking Trail with a grant given out every year to this project.
To honour the memory of Countryfest’s longtime volunteer board member Neil Peterson, $55,000 was also provided to the foundation to set up the Neil Peterson Countryfest post-secondary scholarship in music education. This scholarship grants more than $2,000 per year to a deserving music student.
Dauphin Countryfest’s support is very important to the foundation and is appreciated by the board and the City of Dauphin. Through this award, the foundation board decided to honour the organization for their hard work and dedication to the community.
