Cousins plead guilty to assault

Two men have pleaded guilty for their roles in an assault in which the victim was beaten, stabbed through his arm and had shampoo poured on his head.

Marcel Joseph Brass, 29, pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon in Brandon court on Thursday and Tyler Joseph Brass, 25, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

On the evening of Jan. 31, the cousins went to a Rosser Avenue apartment where they got in a dispute with the 56-year-old man who lived there.

The victim was punched and kicked in the head and face, and Marcel Brass stabbed him through the upper arm. The knife went through the victim’s arm and into his torso.

The cousins then got into a dispute between themselves and the victim was able to flee the home and call police.

He was later taken to hospital where his wounds were closed with staples and he was released that evening.

The victim told police that his assailants had poured shampoo and shower gel over him during the attack.

With blood and shampoo on their clothes and shoes, Marcel and Tyler Brass were found at the scene and both were highly intoxicated. Marcel Brass was found with a steak knife.

Marcel Brass also pleaded guilty to three counts of breaching orders by drinking, including on the date of the offence. Brass says he can’t remember the assault.

Both men remain in custody pending preparation of pre-sentence reports and both will be sentenced on May 5.
