A snowmobile collision Monday afternoon near Virden killed a 50-year-old man from the RM of Wallace.
Kevin Wadham was helping another driver dislodge a snowmobile when another snowmobile struck him at about 2 p.m.
The fact that Wadham was off his snowmobile trying to help another rider out when the collision occurred didn’t come as a surprise to his sister Patti Hole.
“Kevin would help anybody out, that was just the type of guy he was,” Hole said. “He will be greatly missed —unbelievably missed.”
Wadham, who owns a cattle farm and business in the RM of Wallace, leaves behind his wife, Candice, and the couple’s two adult children.
Known as a no-nonsense type of guy, Hole said Wadham always made sure the people closest to him were taken care of.
“He was a great person and a hard-working guy that always put his family first,” Hole said.
Virden RCMP and emergency services were called to the collision.
Initial investigation indicates that Wadham had gotten off his sled to help another rider who had become stuck about two kilometres west of Virden adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway when he was struck, Cpl. Miles Hiebert said.
An RCMP traffic collision analyst is investigating the matter.
Hiebert said it was too early to know if visibility and snowy conditions from a low pressure system that was expected to dump anywhere from 10-20 centimetres of snow in the area played a role in the collision.
Hiebert said while many roads across Westman were closed due to poor conditions, low visibility and travel not recommended, those guidelines don’t apply to snowmobilers who don’t travel on provincial roads.
