A man who was driving drunk when he caused a three-car crash has received a hefty fine.
In Brandon court on Thursday, Unurbayar Bayra Ganbold, 25, pleaded guilty to driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit.
On Aug. 5 around 1:50 a.m., police were called to a three-vehicle collision on Victoria Avenue, court heard.
They learned that Ganbold’s vehicle had rear-ended another vehicle. That vehicle, in turn, had rear-ended another that was stopped for a pedestrian who was crossing the street.
The front end of Ganbold’s vehicle was heavily damaged and its air bags had gone off.
Ganbold, who smelled of liquor, was injured and taken to hospital. Tests showed he had far more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck by Ganbold was also taken to hospital to be examined and was found to have no injuries. It appears no one else was injured.
Judge Krystyna Tarwid fined Ganbold $1,600 and banned him from driving for 18 months.
