Brandonites can take a trip down memory lane when the Daly House Museum hosts its annual fundraising dinner next week, featuring a presentation by the former manager of the Prince Edward Hotel, Tony Griffin.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the opening of the hotel in Brandon and Daly House is excited about Griffin’s agreeing to appear and speak at the event.

"Tony is full of stories about the Prince Eddy and the people who lived and worked there. He’s studied the design and is passionate about the building," said board member Trish Buri.

Adds Griffin: "A group of us had a plan to save the hotel back in the early 1970s. Unfortunately we were not successful, but I think people have learned since then the importance of preserving historic sites."

Grant Hamilton, author of a series of articles about the hotel, will also be on hand to speak and answer questions.

For those who missed the five-part Brandon Sun series when it originally ran last June, all articles, photos and special web-only content remain online at brandonsun.com/princeedwardhotel.

The Daly House dinner starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall on Assiniboine Avenue in Brandon.

Tickets to the dinner and presentation may be purchased from the Daly House Museum by calling 204-727-1722. The cost is only $20 and includes a roast beef dinner with dessert and coffee. Tickets must be purchased in advance; the deadline is Tuesday.

"It won’t be as elaborate as a dinner at the Prince Eddy, but we wanted to keep the cost within the budget of all Brandonites, including those on fixed incomes," Buri said. "It will be an amazing evening."
