Local musician Mo Karrouze is planning to breathe new life into Clear Lake’s Danceland.
Karrouze is the new lease-holder of the hall and will be running it for the next five years.
“Danceland is back. We’re going to be stepping it up,” Karrouze said.
The summer of events kicks off Victoria Day weekend, with a Hippie Night social and Mediterranean Dinner Feast on Saturday.
A social featuring DJ Red will take place on Sunday.
Karrouze is a member of The Beetles band, owner of Hairistocracy Salon and host of the English pavilion during the Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival.
He said he is looking forward to the new venture.
“It’s in my blood,” Karrouze said. “My dad used to be a club owner in Brighton, England, and I’ve been in the entertainment business all my life and I love it.”
Danceland originally opened in 1934. Karrouze said they are already booked for the summer, with weddings, socials, concerts and corporate events.
A Mediterranean restaurant will also be opening at Danceland on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Karrouze hired Aida Tehhan as executive chef to cater events at the hall.
“It’s going to be great,” Karrouze said. “She’s doing 100-mile menu, so everything that she cooks, that she can, is going to come from 100 miles around here.”
Tickets for both events this weekend are available at Hairistocracy in Brandon, Poor Michael’s Book Shop in Onanole and Pretty Cool at Clear Lake.
