Date set for preliminary hearing

A preliminary hearing has been set for former Westoba Credit Union CEO Wayne George McLeod.

The date for the hearing — held to determine whether there’s sufficient evidence to proceed to trial — was set in Brandon court on Thursday and will be held on June 20.

It’s standard for a publication ban to be imposed at a preliminary hearing.

McLeod, 65, is charged with four counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and three counts of sexual exploitation.

The allegations date between Dec. 1, 1994 and May 31, 1998.

It’s alleged that a man sexually assaulted and sexually touched a female youth on multiple occasions.

The matter has not yet reached trial and the allegations haven’t been proven in court.

The complainant is McLeod’s former stepdaughter, Jessica Luhowy, who is now an adult.

McLeod made his first court appearance on the charges in August.

On Dec. 31, he retired from his position as Westoba Credit Union CEO.
