This map shows the development plans for Kingsway Kort given to the City of Brandon by Vancouver-based Kitsilano Laneway Housing Ltd. The plans include four 100-unit apartments and 10 four-unit townhouses. (SUBMITTED)
Development plans for Kingsway Kort reveal the West Coast company wants to build four 100-unit apartment buildings.
According to the application to the City of Brandon, the request for rezoning has been made by Kitsilano Laneway Housing Ltd. of Vancouver. However, the company is developing locally under the name Brandon Evergreen Developments.
The plans brought forward by John Kitchen also include 10 four-unit townhouses as well as an amenities building and sales office.
The 11-acre site includes Kingsway Kort Modular Home Park at 1640 Sycamore Dr. and 21 Willowcrest Ave., which is currently vacant.
City council will table the request on Monday, at which time there will be no discussion. The application will go through a public hearing process, likely in the coming months.
Those in favour or opposed to the plan are reminded they can have their voices heard by contacting the planning commission ahead of the formal hearing.
The more than 50 families living in Kingsway were told last week they have until March to vacate the park to make way for the development. Outraged trailer owners have already started discussion around their legal options and a Facebook page has spawned under the name "Occupy Kingsway."
