When the former Clancy’s Eatery and Drinkery on Princess Avenue reopens later this year, it will have a new name to go with its new owners.
"It’s going to be reopening as a pub and restaurant in November," confirmed Brandon businessman Darren Burdeniuk on Monday. "No it won’t be called Clancy’s."
In June, Clancy’s owner Corey Roberts closed the popular restaurant and pub under financial duress and was ultimately forced to sell.
Burdeniuk, who first partnered two decades ago with Crystal Hotel owner Bob Allen to purchase the local Domino’s Pizza franchise on 18th Street, says he and Allen decided the time was right to partner in a new venture.
"It was just something we had been looking to do somewhere along this theme for awhile. And the building … well, the timing just worked out."
Though their partnership spans 20 years at Domino’s Pizza, Burdeniuk says Allen has been involved in the hospitality business for much longer.
"Bob’s been in hotels and restaurants his whole life."
This will be at least the second purchase of a historic Brandon property for Allen — the Crystal Hotel building celebrated the 130th anniversary of its construction earlier this month.
While the business partners have been conducting renovations to the former Clancy’s building since early September, Burdeniuk says they won’t officially take over the building until Oct.1.
There are no large-scale renovations or changes being made to the building, Burdeniuk said, adding that he would keep some of the expected minor changes as a surprise — at least for a few more weeks as plans firm up.
He did say, however, that while they will be hard pressed to take bookings for the upcoming Christmas party season, the private room should still be available when they open their doors.
An opening date has not been set, though Burdeniuk said they should know more by mid-October.
Allen could not be reached in time for comment.
