Driver charged with leaving scene of crash

A Sprucewoods man who headed home after a crash near Shilo yesterday morning has been charged with leaving the scene of the collision, which sent four people to hospital to be checked out. There were no reported serious injuries.

RCMP were called to the two-vehicle collision at about 8:15 a.m. on Thursday. They say a 1999 red Dodge Durango was headed south on Highway 340 when it apparently crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound 2001 brown Chevrolet Cavalier.

The Durango continued on after the crash, but was found shortly after parked in a Sprucewoods yard.

The occupants in the Cavalier — a 25-year-old woman and her two children, aged 6 months and 2 years — were taken to the hospital for precautionary examinations.

The 34-year-old man alleged to be driving the Durango was also taken to the hospital for precautionary examination after he was located, but police say his injuries weren’t serious. He was charged with failure to remain at the scene of a collision, as well as careless driving.

Police say driver fatigue was to blame for the crash.
